Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine is a medical system that includes the following modalities: acupuncture, acupressure massage, Tuina (therapeutic massage), moxabustion therapy, herbal prescriptions and nutritional counseling. Ancient manuscripts and artifacts indicate these methods have been developed over a 3000-year period and cover everything from treating bruises, sprains and muscular pain to controlling chronic disease such as diabetes and hepatitis.
How Acupuncture Works.
Oriental Medical theory explains that pain and disease are caused by a blockage or imbalance of the energy circulating through the body. The energy of the body circulates in flow lines known as meridians. Acupuncture treatments are designed to restore balance to the flow of energy in the meridians, returning the body to a healthy state.
In an acupuncture treatment, extremely fine sterile needles are inserted at specific points on the body. These points are carefully selected according to the patients' signs and symptoms. Acute conditions or pain can be relieved in one or two sessions. In the case of chronic disease, the body gently returns to the state of balance and full health after a number of treatments.
Emphasis is placed on understanding and treating the underlying cause of each individual's imbalance. This holistic approach to health not only addresses physical complaints, but also emotional, environmental and lifestyle conditions. The results of treatment tend to be long lasting and clients will just need some routine maintenance treatments to keep them healthy and happy.
